Heir Island Regatta (Update) - Due to Weather the Sailing Races have been cancelled for 2024! Fundraiser BBQ Still going ahead at 3pm, All welcome! Apologies for any inconvenience!
The Heir Island Regatta is a yearly highlight on the West Cork sailing calendar, offering visitors an excellent opportunity to witness sailing skills in action.
The racing takes place in the protected area of Roaringwater Bay, and the event is headquartered at Heir Island Sailing School. Competitors of all ages take part on the water, but the regatta is more than simply a sailing event; it is customarily a day when locals visit the island to take in the action on the water, have a picnic on the beach, and partake in the BBQ and lively scenes ashore.
Along with smaller sailing boats and dinghies, several yacht types participate, including the the local Heir Island Sloops and Heir Island Lobster Boats.
The Heir Island Community Council, Baltimore Lifeboat, Lisheen House and Kilcoe NS ASD will all benefit from the day's proceeds. (€2,500 in 2023).
This year the Regatta is aiming to run on the Tuesday 6th of August 2024 weather permitting. (Unfortunately 2024's Event has had to be cancelled due to a weather warning)
